Project Description

Ibex (also known as the Tule Valley Hardpan)

Ibex Hardpan (also referred to as the Tule Valley Hardpan) is a dry lake bed west of the town of Delta in Central Utah.  While there is no defined “runway,” pilots are suggested to use the dry lake surface south of the island as a landing surface, especially during large gatherings. A windsock has been placed atop the island as depicted to the right. Because of it’s nature, pilots are reminded that the condition of the landing surface varies with the weather, as well as the countless unmarked hazards such as watering troughs, wet areas, and springs that are scattered across the lake bed.  A thorough inspection of the runway would be a great standard practice and is encouraged, however, keep the fly-bys over the landing surface and not the parked airplanes.

Ibex lies under and near many Military Operating Areas. Contact Salt Lake Center on 127.825 (or Clover Control on 134.1) for advisories regarding the SEVIER A/B/C/D MOAs (100’ AGL-17,999’ MSL).

Airstrip Briefing Guide

Supporting our core value of Enhancing Safety, the UBCP has developed an "Airstrip Briefing Guide" for Ibex.  This guide, intended to be a part of your required preflight preparations, takes the necessary information about the airstrip and adds even more items such as details on parking and camping areas as well as nearby activities.  As a reminder, the use of the information contained in these guides is at the pilot's own risk.

Without the great efforts of our members, many of Utah's pristine wilderness airstrips would cease to exist today. Together we can continue a legacy of preserving and protecting Utah's Back Country Airstrips. We invite anyone and everyone to join us.
