Description: Mineral Canyon's airstrip resides in the Green River canyon just south of the Bowknot Bend. River has a tendency to flood during the summer, so a thorough review of the airstrip prior to landing is imperative. Mineral Canyon is one of the three back country airstrips included in the State's "FLY UTAH Passport Program". To learn more, head to their website.

Runway: 2000 ft long x 40 ft wide dirt runway in generally good condition, however can be quite soft due to its propensity to flood.

Approach Considerations: Airstrip resides inside a canyon with rapidly rising terrain within 1000 feet of the airstrip rising over 1000 feet above the landing surface. Base jumping and other low-level aircraft operating around and near the airstrip. Please monitor CTAF and make position reports regularly.

Second the comment by C182 with standard tires. We watched them land and take off. Dirt on both ends soft. There is some water int the RWY drainage off to the sides. Suggest taxi to end of strip for departure on 32, shut down and manually turn plane. Any twisting action with standard tires while engine is putting out significant power will cause the tires to penetrate the surface. Otherwise, in good condition.

It had rained a few days before and the strip was dry. It looks like the 4 wheel recreation enthusiasts can't read the sign and been driving onto the strip. Someone left deep ruts on the edge of the strip but it should be far enough off to the side and shouldn't cause a problem. Not sure what can be done to keep vehicles off the strip but it could become an issue with the increased use that the area is seeing.

This is an aerial report as I decided not to land: some sections of the airstrip were dark in color, indicating wet, possibly muddy conditions. There was a large area of standing water adjacent to the airstrip. Definitely appears to need more time to dry out from the rain last week. I selected NEEDS MINOR WORK because it seemed the best option, although evaporation is all that’s needed.

Over half of the runway is under several inches of water. Only the two ends of the runway are above the water level.
