The parking area approach is cluttered with debris from the rain storms last week. So much so that I didn’t attempt to taxi there. The recent work on the runway is evident but again the storm washed across the runway with large areas of runoff. The runway is very “rolly” I was launched into the air a couple times on rollout. The runway is much better on the north end. The new runway length seems to be a bit longer than 2000 ft.

First landing here after the airstrip rehab. The south half of the runway is pretty bumpy, but as you get between the trees it dramatically smooths out. I'll be back!

From Brett White (September 2025):

Sagebrush Bench airstrip is located south of I-70, on the bench above Copper Globe to the West. The airstrip has been in dire need of some work to make it more safe. Sagebrush have encroached on the runway and made landing here very dangerous, and they are everywhere (hence the name...).

Several agencies were able to band together, including the Bureau of Land Management, the US Forest Service, The Division of Natural Resources which includes the County and the State of Utah's trail crews, along with some local companies who donated the use of equipment and employees. Together we were able to go to the Sagebrush Bench airstrip Sep 22nd, and 23rd and complete the work. The sagebrush was carefully plucked out with the machines, and the ground smoothed out over the 2200' runway. Today, the airstrip has been restored to a healthy, safe landing surface.

This project was made possible mostly because of the OHV registrations from the State of Utah. Funds for employees, machines, and fuel were pulled from this budget, so thank you to anyone who registers their vehicles!. The BLM also covered the wages of 3 employees on their trails crew to come out and help with the airstrip and a couple trails nearby that needed some help. This was an amazing project, with a ton of hands involved and it helped restore an amazing airstrip. Be safe out there!
