The newest addition to our database! The new owner, Erik Middleton, welcomes all UBCP members to enjoy his airstrip. Currently he is working on improved tent campgrounds, a cabin/restroom/pilot lounge, and even adding some courtest cars!
Please watch for deer in the vicinity of the landing surface.
Feel free to call Erik at 435-299-9722 if you have any questions about the airstrip.
Stopped in to camp for the night. Met the owners Eric and Lisa. Great people, generous and accommodating. They are doing everything they can to make a great hangout place. The car is great and A/C works . Bathroom facilities are also great. We had a fun time with them. Beautiful views from the property and an easy approach from both ends. Thanks guys!
Stopped into Split Mountain on my way home from Arkansas. Right next to Dinosaur National Monument, it has some amazing scenery in the area. The strip is uphill to the north, and is good and firm. I landed to the south, downhill, but would recommend landing uphill. If a go around is needed, try to decide early as there is rising terrain. Shouldn't be an issue though as there is room for turns away from that terrain. Takeoff to the south downhill typically. Lots of neighbors around so stop in and stay a bit. Some old hangars to take a look at. Unfortunately I wasn't able to meet the owners but perhaps next time. I need to bring some transportation and make it into Dinosaur National Monument, which apparently is just 3 miles away!
Hey Josh, sorry we missed you. We do have a rental car available. Not asking much just enough to keep it running and insurance.
7 months agoStopped in to visit Erik and Lisa. Very nice field and great hosts. The runway is a little sandy on the north end but otherwise good condition, packed dirt, mostly smooth. Parking area loops around the large hangar and back to the runway allowing plenty of parking. Windsock is abeam the hangars on the west side. Be careful for deer and lots of migrating birds. Bring your bike it only 3 miles to the Dinosaur National Monument visitor center.
Thanks for the update Jeff...its on my list to check out this spring in my Sportsman!
