All Airstrip Reports
Airstrip inspection with BLM to determine possible alternatives to reopening an airstrip at Keg Knoll. Request that pilots not land on the airstrip, since it is in a wilderness area. Be patient and respect the process.
Thank you for the work! This is such a cool spot- I hope you are successful in getting it re-opened!
4 months agoPoint of rocks is shared with the road, so use caution for vehicles. It is generally a north south runway. There are not any great pull offs or camping spots, but could be cleaned up pretty easily and added. There is some mining piles on the east and on the west when landing and a fence on the eastern side of the runway so use caution and probably more appropriate for high wings. The road has been recently graded and is in good shape.
Overgrown but would be a good candidate to clean up. Beautiful area. There is a berm to the south side of the runway the entire length.
Landed to the south. Runway is fairly smooth and has minimal vegetation - just a bit where it rises at the north end. Surface was dry and firm. There were a few medium-sized rocks, but nothing too big even for tricycle gear. Windsock is in good condition. Enjoyed a bug-free visit to the island in the winter.
