Good condition on the airstrip. Dirt, landing north slightly uphill. Spectacular canyon to the south!

Wish I could safely get over the Continental divide here in Boulder this time of year! Drives me nuts I cant enjoy the flying out there during our windy season here!

JAY TOWNSEND visited Hidden Splendor 6 months ago in a Bearhawk Companion with GY 26 tires

We had a group of 4 planes that flew the normal approach into Hidden Splendor. Strip was in great condition. It was past noon when we finally got to Hidden Splendor and did have a bit of a tailwind on short final but nothing too squirrelly. One of my favorite strips

We had four planes, Maule, Husky, Highlander and my Bearhawk, as always this strip is a bit of a rodeo with a few humps and some rough spots. This is a VERY remote strip and you have to expect a bit of a rough strip, but a thorough flyover inspection can give you an idea of of where to touchdown to not land into a hump which can throw you up into the air. Takeoffs from the miner’s cabin area can eliminate some bumps if you have the performance to give up 300’ of runway.

JAY TOWNSEND visited Dirty Devil 6 months ago in a Bearhawk Companion with N/A tires

We chatted to long at Happy Canyon so did not have time to land at this bucket list strip, but I did do a SLOW approach as to land and a 6’ AGL flyover to simulate a landing. It was looking great and landing would have been easy.

Erick Thompson visited Hidden Splendor 6 months ago in a C182 with Main 800 Nose 600 tires

A serious amount of rain fell within the last week. The runway was damp, but in good condition. The Muddy was flowing very muddy and the flood levels have recently been over 6 ft above normal levels for this time of year. Hiking was a bit sticky in several places along the river.

First several hundred feet of RWY 29 is very damp with some ruts. Landing long worked out great. The rest of the strip was damp but in good condition.
